NUAKH MISSIONARY HOUSE

a place of rest and renewal

See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The Lord’s justice will dwell in the desert, His righteousness will live in the fertile field. The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.

(excerpts from Isaiah 32)

  • “Nuakh”

is a Hebrew term often found in biblical contexts, meaning “rest” or “to rest.” It conveys more than just a physical cessation of activity; it implies a deeper, more spiritual sense of peace and presence. In the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, it is associated with God resting after creation and can be linked to the concept of Sabbath rest—a rest that signifies completeness, tranquility, and being settled in a state of well-being. It’s different from simply not working—it’s about resting in a way that acknowledges God’s provision and care, where one can be at peace and fully present.

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

    Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

  • Rest is a weapon given to us by God. The enemy hates it because he wants you stressed and occupied.”

    Elisabeth Elliot

  • “In rest, we return to ourselves and to the presence of God.”

    Parker J. Palmer

What is it?

Nuakh House is a place of rest and renewal for overseas missionaries, located in the West End neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. This unique location places it within a vibrant and supportive community of believers who are committed to coming alongside missionaries—not only in prayer but in tangible ways, offering friendship, encouragement, and practical support. At Nuakh House, missionaries can experience not just physical rest, but also the comfort of being surrounded by a community that understands and values their service. This environment provides an opportunity for deep spiritual restoration, relational connection, and the chance to recharge before returning to the mission field. We are raising funds to renovate this house and transform it into a true refuge for those who give so much of themselves in service to the King.
